List of Rancho Mirage Restaurants Official City of Rancho Mirage Website
THE FIRST RESIDENTS of Rancho Mirage and... the surrounding Greater Palm Springs area cities, were the ancestors of the Agua Caliente Band of the Cahuilla Indians. Centuries ago they inhabited some 2,000 square miles in the local mountains and canyons and thrived because of an abundant water supply, palm groves, and hot springs.
Rancho Mirage began it's development, as a second home community, in the early 1930's. News of this secluded desert oasis spread though Los Angeles and Hollywood. The rich and famous built ranchos on what is today Clancy Lane. The area of Magnesia Falls, a more affordable community, in sheltered Rancho Mirage Cove became the areas second settlement. By 1934 the Rancho Mirage Community Association had been formed.
Visitors were drawn to the valley "dude ranches" in the 1940's. With the purchase of the Thunderbird Dude Ranch in 1950, for construction of an 18-hole golf course and the Thunderbird Country Club, Rancho Mirage began it's development as "the golf capitol of the world" and became synonymous with Country Club living. Membership included Phil Harris & Alice Faye, Desi Arnaz & Lucille Ball, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Clark Gable, Ben Hogan, Randolf Scott, and Esther William among many others. One elegant club followed another and residents have included 3 ex-Presidents.
The Rancho Mirage of the 21st Century has maintained the quality of life that first drew homeowners and visitors to the area. A relaxed, peaceful, and unhurried environment that offers unparralleled amenities and services. The array of golf course communities provide spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. The lush landscape provides a cooling sea of green. Truely a desert oasis.
